Dr. Julian Prosia
“Experts agree that our increased use of screen time has left well over 30 million Americans to suffer from dry eye, yet it remains one of the most under-served issues in eye care.”
Dr. Julian Prosia gained an undergraduate degree in Biology/Physiology from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada in 2017. Building on this sound basis, he attended Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL, graduating in May 2019 with an Honors BSc of Vision Science. He was then granted the Dean’s Scholarship at the same institution and qualified as a Doctor of Optometry in 2021, gaining the highest distinction and ranking in the top 5 of the Class of 2021.
Dr. Julian Prosia has dedicated his career to the field of optometry since 2013, where he honed his craft from ground level upwards. Today, one facet of his expertise is that of dry eye care—an area of optometry that’s somewhat under-addressed in terms of care, yet blights millions of Americans. This, along with expertise in the fitting of specialty contact lenses and glaucoma management, make for a well-rounded practitioner whose services are highly sought after by patients and respected by his peers. During his extensive training, he developed a passion for tutoring, serving as a lead academic and clinical skills tutor for hundreds of students. His commitment remains to this day, and he remains a firm advocate for those seeking a career in eye care.
Dr. Julian Prosia is a current member of the Palm Beach County Optometric Association and Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. While studying for his doctorate, he was an Honors BSK Board member, serving as treasurer. His practical clinical training was intense and hands-on. Prior to his Florida relocation, he served extensive apprenticeships in both the Ancaster Eye Clinic, Ontario, Canada and at Family Eye Care, Hamilton, Canada. His time at Optometry school was further enhanced through his work as a clinical skills tutor, where he took the lead in many scenarios. These included leading group tutoring in lecture halls and 1-to-1 training in various areas, such as Ocular Disease, Ocular Anatomy, Optics, Optometric Theory, and Optometric Methods.
Truly a doctor for the present day, Dr. Prosia also created a free tutoring service to aid students during the COVID19 pandemic, assisting them in study and preparation for examinations without the worry of financial stress.
When not working, Dr. Prosia enjoys attending eye care conferences and continuing his philanthropic efforts. This has included working as an Optometric Screener and volunteer at the Special Olympics OPENING EYES group where, over 2 years, he screened over 1,400 Special Olympic athletes. On a more personal level, he enjoys cooking up a storm in the kitchen and playing sports, such as soccer, golf, and hockey.
